KHJ is an American radio broadcaster based in Los Angeles , California . KHJ broadcasts on medium wave 930 k Hz with 5 k W a commercial, Catholic religious program called Relevant Radio .

history

KHJ started operations in 1920 and was officially licensed in 1922 , making it one of the oldest stations in the world. From 1965 to 1980, KHJ broadcast a pop program as a top 40 station . Then the station switched to a country format and in 1983 back to pop. In 1986 , the station took over the oldie format from KRTH . In 1988 the station was sold to Liberman Broadcasting and switched to regional Mexican music. This program was broadcast from 1990 to November 2014 . The transmitter has been operated by Immaculate Heart Radio since 2014 .

With the sale to IHR Educational Broadcasting on July 15, 2014, the program switched to a Catholic-religious program.

The station abbreviation KHJ has supposedly stood for "Kindness, Happiness and Joy " since 1949 , in German for "Freundlichkeit, Fröhlichkeit und Freude".

KHJ uses three KBLA transmitter masts for broadcasting, which are located near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Alvarado Street in Los Angeles. Only one of the masts is used during the day and all three at night. The transmission power is five kilowatts.
