2016: Debut with Knock , mini-albums Awake and Remain , IKMA
On February 25, 2016, YNB Entertainment published a trailer for the debut song Knock on KNK's YouTube channel . The song was composed by the ButterFly production team, led by Hwang Seong-je. The rap was written by Youjin. The choreography was created by Prepix's Ha Woo-shin and the music video was produced by Lee Ki-baek. Three days after the trailer was released, KNK welcomed their fans to their debut showcase at the Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul on February 29, 2016 . There they presented their songs Knock and Angel Heart and covered Love in the Ice by TVXQ and On the Street by Kim Kwang-seok .
On March 1, 2016, KNK debuted their song on the Korean music program THE SHOW . It was her first appearance on a television show. The single and the complete music video for the debut song was released on March 3, 2016. The video has had over 2.7 million views to date.
KNK had their first appearance outside of South Korea on April 15, 2016 in Macau . There they sang their single Knock at the 20th China Music Awards .
On May 16, 2016, the band celebrated their comeback with the download single I Remember . The R&B song was composed by Kim Tae-joo.
At the end of May 2016, YNB Entertainment announced that KNK would make their comeback with their first mini-album Awake in June. They published teaser pictures showing the whole group and the individual members. On May 26, 2016, the teaser for the song Back Again was released. The complete music video as well as the first mini-album Awake was released on June 2nd, 2016. All songs were produced by Kim Tae-joo. The choreography for the title song was created by Ha Woo-shin. Jihun, the band's leader, choreographed Gone , the first song on the mini-album. The mini-album reached number 14 on the Billboard World Album Charts. Billboard honored the band with the statement that the band made one of the best K-pop debuts in the first half of 2016.
YNB Entertainment started to publish the first teasers and the track list for the second mini-album Remain in early November 2016 . Kim Tae-joo was also involved in this production. However, the songs Goodbye and Tonight were produced by members Youjin and Heejun. On November 12, 2016, a medley with the songs from the mini-album was released. One day after the release of the teaser for the title song U , the band's entertainment announced that the music video would not be released. The reason for this are problems with quality. Instead, the performance video was published on November 18, 2016, which now has over 120,000 views. The mini-album was released on November 17, 2016. That day they had their comeback showcase, which was streamed live on V Live . There, in addition to their new songs U and I Know, they also presented the song Love in the Ice by TVXQ.
On December 5, 2016, the European website JAPAKO Music started the three-week voting phase for the International K-Music Awards 2016 (IKMA 2016 for short). KNK are nominated for the best newcomers and for the best choreography with Knock . Voting ends on December 26, 2016.
