The VT101 of the Kleinbahn Kassel-Naumburg (KN) was produced in 1956 as a joint development by Henschel Kassel and the wagon factory Credé Niederzwehren . He was with the company until 1977, from there he came to the Württembergische Nebenbahnen AG, and finally to the Hessencourrier .

In 1989 the railcar was given to the Verden Railway Friends. Ten years later it was dismantled there.

history

In 1956, the wagon factory Gebrüder Credé in Niederzwehren in cooperation with the locomotive factory Henschel in Kassel produced a particularly powerful railcar for the winding stretch of the Kassel – Naumburg small railway. The railcar should be able to transport five two-axle passenger cars as a tow car at sufficient speed over the route mentioned. Although the railcar has proven itself very well, no replicas were made.

By equipping the vehicle with the two-engine system with 2 × 300 PS, this was the most powerful internal combustion engine for private railways according to WEG T11 . This meant that it was sufficiently motorized for peak loads, and for the less busy traffic times it could run with just one machine system in order to save fuel.

The railcar operated on the Kassel – Naumburg line until passenger traffic was discontinued in 1977 .

Then it was passed on to the Württembergische Nebenbahnen AG , in 1989 it came to the Hessencourrier. The other stations are the museum railways of the Verdener Eisenbahnfreunde, although it is not listed there in the vehicle lists. In 1999 the railcar was dismantled.

Constructive features

Together with the Esslingen railcars and the MaK GDT , the railcar was one of the most powerful private railcars . In terms of structure and appearance, it was more based on the Esslingen railcars. Like this, the VT101 had three compartments and two center entrances. The driver's workplace was in a separate driver's cab. A total of 98 seats and 4 folding seats were available, as well as a toilet and a luggage and train attendant room with a capacity of 4.5 m². The entrance doors were made of light metal. When opening, the lower step was folded down.

Two underfloor arranged diesel engines of the type Daimler-Benz Mb 846 Bb, which could develop an output of 300 hp each, gave the power to a six-speed manual gearbox RRWV 120 of the Renk-Rambausek type , whereby all four axles of the railcar were driven and the vehicle had a very high traction and could reach 80 km / h. The entire floor area of the railcar could be used for passenger transport. The heating was done by warm air heaters. Seven cuckoo fans were provided for ventilation .
