history

In 1878 a factory for hosiery was founded under the name CA Uhlmann . In 1956, the state- owned company "VEB Elektrogerätewerks Gornsdorf" rented an empty building in the Uhlmann factory and began manufacturing products that were urgently needed in the GDR : bicycle dynamos , ignition distributors , alternators and standard motors. This state-owned company was subordinate to the Ministry of General Mechanical Engineering and in 1959 produced the first printed circuit boards for radio and television sets .

In 1962, the demand for printed circuit boards in the GDR skyrocketed. They were now also used in operational, measurement , control and regulation technology , in scientific device construction, in automation, radio and medical technology as well as in IT . An increase in the production of contact components was also necessary. In the same year, Carl Uhlmann (the grandson of CA Uhlmann) had to cease stocking production entirely. He took over parts of the electronics production ( spring and measuring strips, connectors , pushbuttons , channel selectors, fuse strips with lightning protection as well as latch and button strips), but had to accept state participation. This semi-public company was still privately owned and worked according to state guidelines.

1970 was renamed the "VEB electrical appliances factory Gornsdorf" in "VEB K ontaktelemente and S pezialmaschinenbau G ornsdorf" (from this derives the still run the company name abbreviation "KSG" ab). In 1972 the company “CA Uhlmann” was completely nationalized and renamed “VEB Bauelemente der Telekommunikentechnik”. In 1975 the two companies were merged by integrating the "VEB Bauelemente der Telekommunikentechnik" (former Uhlmann company) of KSG. After the reunification in 1990, the owner family fought for four years to maintain and transfer the company from the trust holdings.

In the course of reprivatisation in 1994, the company was converted into "KSG Leiterplatten GmbH". In 2017, KSG Leiterplatten GmbH acquired 100% of the shares in a printed circuit board manufacturer from Austria - the Häusermann company. In 2018 the name of KSG Leiterplatten GmbH was changed to KSG GmbH and Häusermann GmbH to KSG Austria GmbH.
