K Project , also just K , is a Japanese media franchise that started in 2012 with an anime series and was continued in the form of many manga series as well as some films and a computer game.

content

The high school student Yashiro Isana lives a peaceful everyday school life and is popular with his classmates, even though he has no close friends. When Tatara Totsuka is murdered by the Homra clan one day, Yashiro Isana comes under suspicion because the killer was very much like him. So Yashiro falls into the sights of several clans, which are led by the so-called Seven Kings. These have been chosen from a mysterious slate and have supernatural powers. So z. B. the violent red king Mikoto Suo, who leads the Homra clan. The only unknown king is the colorless one, and soon Yashiro is also suspected of being this previously unknown king.

Anime series

The anime series was created in 2012 at Studio GoHands , directed by Hiromitsu Kanazawa and Susumu Kudo . Main authors were GoRA and Tatsuki Miyazawa , while Shingo Suzuki was responsible for the character design. The artistic direction was Masanobu Nomura and the mechanical design was done by Hiroshi Okubo . Producers were Haruki Hayashi and Hiroo Maruyama .

The 13 episodes of the series were broadcast from October 4 to December 28, 2012 by MBS , with a few days apart from the stations AT-X , BS-TBS , Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting and TBS . At KSM , the anime was released in German dubbed version on DVD from August 2017. An English version was broadcast by multiple broadcasters and online platforms, and a French version was released on DVD and online on Anime Digital Network . There is also a Chinese version. ProSieben Maxx has been showing the first season repeatedly since March 22, 2019.

A second series followed in 2015 under the title K: Return of Kings , also with 13 episodes, which is based on the film that came out after the first series. The anime was again directed by Hiromitsu Kanazawa with the same team. It aired on AT-X, BS-TBS, Chubu-Nippon Broadcasting, MBS, and TBS from October 3 to December 26, 2016. A German version was also published by KSM, as well as English and French.

The music for the series was composed by Mikio Endo . The opening song is Kings by Angela and the following songs were used for the closing credits :

Mangas

The first manga appeared in K: Memory of Red by author Rei Rairaku and illustrator Yui Kuroe in Aria magazine at Kodansha . The series ran from May 2012 to July 2013 and was also published in three edited volumes. K: Stray Dog Story , written by GoRa and drawn by Saki Minato , followed in November 2012 , im good! Afternoon at the same publisher. From October 2013 to July 2014, K: Days of Blue, designed by Yui Kuroe, was published in Aria . Another manga appeared in December 2013 as K - The First - in GFantasy magazine on Square Enix . The series was written by Hideyuki Furuhashi and drawn by Rin Kimura . The publication in the magazine ended in April 2015. From 2014 Gakuen K from Suzu Suzuki and Jiro Suzuki and 2015 K: Dog & Cat , drawn by Rin Kimura, both in the same magazine at Square Enix. K - The First - was published in full by Egmont Manga between May and September 2018 . It followed in October and December 2018 K - Countdown .

Movie

K: Missing Kings was released as a franchise film on July 5, 2014 in Japanese cinemas. The work of director Hiromitsu Kanazawa continues the anime series. A number of additional films have been announced for the second half of 2018.

computer game

In October 2014 the visual novel Gakuen K: Wonderful School Days was released for the PlayStation Portable and later also for the PlayStation Vita . The game was developed by Otomate and distributed by Idea Factory .
