Kaňk (German: Gang ) is a district of the city of Kutná Hora ( Kuttenberg ) in the Czech Republic . The place had been a mountain town since 1621 .
geography
The place is about 3 km north of Kuttenberg and about 50 km east of Prague in the Středočeský kraj ( Central Bohemian Region ). The mountain of the same name, which gave the place its name, extends to the east.
The settlement Pod Kaňkem belongs to the place . Kaňk is one of twelve districts and one of seven cadastral districts of Kutná Hora.
history
The development of the settlement is related to the silver mining, which took place in the nearby Kuttenberg in the 12th / 13th centuries. Century. In the 14th century, when mining in Kuttenberg was already declining, you found it in the corridor. At first, mainly miners and smelters were resident. Between 1489 and 1506, the Laurentiuskirche, which characterizes the town, was built at their expense.
Despite the dominant importance of the old mountain town of Kuttenberg, Emperor Ferdinand II gifted the place with the same rights as Kutná Hora in 1621 and thus elevated it to a free mountain town. Only mountain and coin jurisdiction remained in the main town. Probably at the same time, Gang received a coat of arms that combines the mining symbolism of mallets and iron as well as the deep religiousness ( Archangel Gabriel is shown ) of the miners of that time. In 1792 the place received city council and mayor.
Halden and Pingen as evidence of old mining can also be found in the settlement, for example the Šafary and Kuntery pits north of the church . After a temporary standstill, the mining of zinc and lead ores was started in the Turkaňk mine in 1958 and operated until 1992.
The place was a town until 1930 and was incorporated into Kutná Hora together with Perštejnec and Sedlec in 1950.
