The KaVo Dental GmbH is a company in the field of dentistry , based in Upper Swabia Biberach and a subsidiary of US-based Envista Corporation.

It has been developing, manufacturing and selling products for dentistry for over 110 years. The products include, in particular, dental turbines , straight and contra-angle handpieces , products for diagnostics, endodontics and surgery , treatment units as well as the areas of multimedia , X-ray , dental technology and CAD / CAM .

KaVo holds more than 2,200 patents and utility models in Germany and abroad.

history

The company was founded in 1909 by Alois Kaltenbach in Berlin-Steglitz and quickly developed into one of the market leaders in the dental industry. Richard Voigt joined the young company in 1919, the company headquarters was relocated to Potsdam and the name was changed to Kaltenbach & Voigt. In 1928 KaVo developed the world's first sterilizable handpiece. The first dental device (KaVo 1001) was produced in 1936. In 1939 the company employed 300 people.

After the war, the Potsdam plant became VEB Dentaltechnik Potsdam.

In 1946, Erich Hoffmeister joined the company as a new partner and the headquarters were relocated to Biberach in Upper Swabia. Instrument production was resumed there after the end of the war. In 1952 device production was resumed. In 1958 the first Kavo turbine (Borden Airotor) was developed, which at high speeds ensured improved efficiency and precision. In 1959 the company opened a dental technology factory in Leutkirch . In 1962 the first international sales companies were founded in London and Brazil . In 2004, the strategic carried acquisition of KaVo by the US-based Danaher Corporation .
