Kaatje Vermeire
Kaatje Vermeire (born August 9, 1981 in Gent , Belgium ) is a Flemish graphic artist and illustrator . Since 2007 she has illustrated nine books, three of which are also available in German translation. She has received various awards for her work as an illustrator. Vermeire lives in Wetteren , Belgium.
life and work
Vermeire studied graphic design and advertising design as well as free graphics, both at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent (KASK).
Her debut as an illustrator was the book De Vrouw en het jongetje (2007) with a text by Geert De Kockere. This has been followed by eight more books so far, available in numerous translations - including in Arabic, Chinese, Danish, German, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish and Spanish.
Vermeire's picture books are characterized by literary texts.
In 2015 she was a member of the jury for The Extraordinary Book of the Children and Youth Program of the Berlin International Literature Festival .
In 2015, Vermeire illustrated the walls of a mother-child center in Antwerp.
