The Kabuto Rock ( Japanese か ぶ と 岩 Kabuto-iwa , German 'Helmfelsen' ; Norwegian Hjelmen 'Helm' ) is a large and bare rock on the Crown Prince Olav Coast in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It rises halfway between the Chijire and Rakuda glaciers .
Aerial photographs and measurements of the Japanese Antarctic expedition, which lasted from 1957 to 1962, were used to map it. The Japanese scientists involved in it also carried out the descriptive naming. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this into English in 1964.
