Kadri Veseli (born May 31, 1967 in Brabonjić near Kosovska Mitrovica , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a Kosovar politician and chairman of the Partia Demokratike e Kosovës (PDK).

From 2014 to 2019 he was President of the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo . Veseli was previously head of the Kosovo Intelligence Service (SHIK), a post-war underground secret service organization affiliated with the PDK.

Life

Veseli began his higher education in 1990 at the University of Pristina of Agriculture and the Higher Pedagogical School in Albanian. Due to the political situation, he finished the rest of his studies in Albania . He has a Bachelor's degree from Kamëz University in Albania, an MBA in General Management from the University of Sheffield (which has an International Faculty in Thessaloniki , Greece), while in 2016 he prepared his PhD at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia . Veseli speaks Albanian , English , German and Serbian . He has four children with his wife Violeta. In May 2016 Veseli became chairman of the PDK by acclamation. He was elected with no votes against and no abstentions.

Ascent

Veseli was one of the leaders of the Kosovar Students' Movement from 1988 to 1990, who campaigned for the human and political rights of Kosovars, including the right to independence.

During the Kosovo war he was appointed commander of the counter-intelligence service (G-2) of the UÇK and remained so until the end of the war, when the secret service joined the so-called Kosovo intelligence service or the SHIK, a post-war underground intelligence organization affiliated with the Democratic Party of Kosovo, and the dissolution of the Party of Kosovo was announced in 2008. At the end of 2012, Kadri Veseli officially joined the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), while on January 27, 2013, he became deputy party leader. Veseli was elected Speaker of the Parliament of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo on December 8, 2014. After Hashim Thaçi's resignation, he was appointed head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo. On December 26, 2019, Veseli was deposed as President of Parliament and replaced by Glauk Konjufca .

Charges by the Special Prosecutor of the Kosovo War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague

On June 24, 2020, he was charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity (murder, torture and persecution) in connection with the Kosovo war by the special prosecutor of the Kosovo War Crimes Tribunal in The Hague .
