history

The family company was founded on June 27, 1919 by Carl Kaeser senior as a mechanical engineering factory for the production of spare parts such as gears for cars and engines and, in the following years, special machines for the glass industry in Thuringia. The company was based at Hahnweg 31b in Coburg. In 1937, the mechanical engineer Carl Kaeser junior (1914–2009) joined his father's company.

Since the glass industry in Thuringia could no longer be supplied after the Second World War , the company expanded its production program to include reciprocating compressors in 1948. The development of screw compressors followed in the early 1970s. Its heart is a screw compressor block with a new type of rotor profile called the Sigma profile .

At the beginning of 1961, the company relocated its Coburg plant to what is now the Coburg district of Bertelsdorf .

Kaeser has been active internationally with sales and service organizations since 1978. Two years later, the company took over the French compressor manufacturer Compresseurs Bernard and developed Kaeser Mobilair , a range of mobile screw compressors for the construction industry. Since then they have been produced in Lyon by around 150 employees.

In 1991 the takeover of Geraer Kompressorenwerke followed , which had been founded in 1877 as Heinrich Leo Metallwarenfabrik und Eisengießerei . The plant was the first German manufacturer of compressors in 1890 and was a leading manufacturer in Germany with a 70 percent market share until 1945. In Gera , among other things, the production of refrigeration dryers and positive displacement blowers takes place . With around 300 employees, the plant in Gera is the second largest manufacturing industrial company after Dagro Gera GmbH with 360 employees and the only one with a training workshop.

In 2013 the company was converted into a European stock corporation “Societas Europaea” (SE). In 2015 Kaeser Kompressoren is active in over 100 countries through subsidiaries and contractual partners.
