Kagiso ( Setswana ; German "peace") is a township settlement in the South African province of Gauteng . It belongs to the Local Municipality Mogale City in the West Rand district .
geography
In 2011, Kagiso had 115,802 inhabitants. The district is located south of Krugersdorp . The Chamdor industrial park, where the beverage manufacturer SABMiller operates a plant, is adjacent to the northeast .
history
The district was founded in 1920 by former miners and settlers from the northwest Luipaardsvlei. In the early 1990s, as in other places in South Africa, violent clashes broke out between hostel residents and other residents. The then Archbishop Desmond Tutu who had traveled there failed to bring about peace.
traffic
The National Route 41 , the Randfontein on the West with Johannesburg connects the east leads to the south by Kagiso. The R558 runs in a north-south direction from Krugersdorp via Kagiso to Hartbeesfontein .
