action

Countless people die in Calcutta because of a poison gas attack. A toxic liquid was released in the subway and all occupants perish. Also a police officer who is on duty and had the task of preventing this. Two years later, the pregnant software programmer Vidya Bagchi is looking for her husband, whom she can no longer contact. She travels from London to Calcutta, where the annual Durga Puja takes place. She makes her way directly from the airport to the police station. There the policeman Satyoki "Rana" Sinha offers her his help. Firmly convinced that her husband works in the National Data Center (NDC), she goes there. She is told that no one with the name is active there. When Vidya shows a photo of herself and her husband, the name Milan Damji, who looks very similar to Arnab, is mentioned. Agnes D'Mello, the company's chairwoman, tells her that she can find documents in the old building. Before Agnes can investigate further, she is murdered by Bob Biswas. Bob works in life insurance and as a secret agent he kills people. Rana and Vidya break into the old building to take Milan Damji's documents with them. They narrowly escape Bob, who is also looking for the documents. Meanwhile, attempts to obtain Damji's records have drawn the attention of two Intelligence Bureau (IB) officials in Delhi - Chief Bhaskaran K. and his MP Khan. Khan arrives in Calcutta and reveals that Damji was responsible for the poison gas attack. Despite Khan's warnings, Vidya continues her search, fearing that Arnab's resemblance to Milan may have led him into trouble.

The address in Damji's records leads Vidya and Rana to a dilapidated apartment. An errand boy from the neighborhood tea market recognizes R. Sridhar, an NDC officer, as a frequent visitor to Damji's home. Bob tries to kill Vidya but fails and is hit by a car during the chase and dies. Checking Bob's cell phone leads Vidya and Rana to an IP address that gave the order to kill Vidya. They break into Sridhar's office to check his IP address. He is alerted electronically and returns to his office. He chases Vidya and Rana while they are on the run and shoots them. He becomes physical and Vidya shoots Sridhar with his dropped weapon. Khan is furious because he tried to catch Sridhar alive.

Sridhar's computer data reveals a code which, when deciphered, reveals Bhaskaran's telephone number. Vidya calls Bhaskaran to tell him they have sensitive documents from Sridhar's office. She asks Bhaskaran for help in finding her husband in exchange for the documents, but Bhaskaran tells her to contact the local police. Vidya soon gets a call from an unknown number, which tells her that she has to hand the documents over to the caller if she wants to see her husband alive. Khan assumes the caller is Milan Damji.

Vidya goes to meet Damji, followed by Rana and Khan. Damji interrupts the session when Vidya expresses her doubts that he will be able to return her husband in exchange for the sensitive file. Vidya tries to stop him and in the fight Damji draws a gun and aims at her head. Vidya disarms him with the prosthetic belly she used to fake pregnancy. She shoots him with his pistol and flees into the crowd before the police arrive. She leaves a note thanking Rana and a USB stick with data from Sridhar's computer that lead to the arrest of Bhaskaran. Rana realizes that Vidya or Arnab Bagchi never existed and that Vidya used the police and the IB to achieve her own goal; to take revenge on Milan Damji, who murdered her husband, the police officer on duty, two years ago in the subway.
