Kai Joachim Bühling (born July 29, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German gynecologist and professor at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf . His focus is on gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine as well as prenatal diagnostics, and since 2007 he has been in charge of the hormone consultation at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Gynecology.

Life

After completing his school career in 1987 at the Rissen high school , Bühling completed his military service at the command academy of the Bundeswehr . He then studied medicine at the University of Hamburg from 1989 to 1992 . From 1993 to 1996 he continued his studies in Berlin at the Free University of Berlin and later at the Humboldt University . In 1997 he began his work as a doctor in an internship in the gynecological clinic of the General Hospital Hamburg-Altona (Head: V. Lehmann) and continued this work in Berlin in the Clinic and Polyclinic for Obstetrics (Director: JW Dudenhausen) at the Charité Berlin. After obtaining his full license, he worked there from 1998 to 2004 as well as in the Clinic and Polyclinic for Gynecology (Director: W. Lichtenegger) as a research assistant. During this time he was in charge of the diabetes clinic at the Obstetrics Clinic. In 2002 he passed the specialist examination as a gynecologist. At the clinic, he also acquired the skills for the three-year specialization in special obstetrics and perinatal medicine as well as for recognition as a diabetologist. From 2004 to 2005 he worked in the department for gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine at the Charité Campus Benjamin-Franklin and then switched to the endocrinological and reproductive medicine practice of Bohnet, Knuth & Graf in Hamburg in 2005 . There he completed the three-year specialization “Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine”.

Bühling has been in charge of the hormone consultation hours at the Clinic and Polyclinic for Gynecology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf since 2007 and is an independent doctor. He also has a private practice in Hamburg-Blankenese.

Bühling lives in Hamburg, is married and has 3 children.

Scientific career

Bühling received his doctorate in 1997 on the subject of “Evaluation of the 50g glucose screening test in pregnancy. A prospective study on 1416 patients taking into account their diet history. ”(Rating:“ magna cum laude ”).

His habilitation at the Charité Berlin with the title “Gestational Diabetes - Screening, Diagnostics and Therapy” followed in 2004. In the same year he was awarded the Venia legendi for the subject “Gynecology and Obstetrics”. In connection with his move to Hamburg, Bühling completed his habilitation in 2007 and since then has been licensed to teach at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf, where he regularly offers lectures and seminars.

Due to his activities in teaching and research, he was appointed professor in 2011.

In 2008 Bühling founded the “German Society for Women's Health eV”, of which he has been President since then. He is the editor and founder of two specialist journals for gynecologists, the "CME Practical Training Gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecological Endocrinology" (ISSN 1614-8533) and "Journal für Frauengesundheit" (1867-4127 to 2012).
