The Kairos is so far the world's largest LNG - bunkering vessel . It was built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard , South Korea and delivered in October 2018.

history

The ship was ordered by Babcock Schulte Energy (BSE), a joint venture founded in 2016 between Babcock and Bernhard Schulte . In October 2017, construction began at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan with the first steel cut. The ship was delivered in October 2018. On February 8, 2019, the ship was christened in the port of Hamburg by the CDU chairwoman Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer in the presence of Mayor Peter Tschentscher . The construction was financially supported by the European Union as part of the “Blue Baltics” project.

On April 21, 2019, the Wes Amelie was the first ship to be refueled by the Kairos.

The company Nauticor (to Gasum ) has chartered the ship from Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement to use it in the Baltic Sea . It is designed to support investments in LNG infrastructure and mobile equipment in Lithuania, Sweden and Estonia to make LNG available as a fuel for sea and road transport.

Ship description

The ship is 117 meters long and 20 meters wide. It is measured at 8070 GT. The cargo tank capacity is 7500 cubic meters .

The tanker is used for ship-to-ship reloading operations and especially for LNG refueling of ships and gas consumers on land as well as tank trucks and tank wagons for onward transport.
