Kajetan Stefanowicz

Kajetan Stefanowicz (born July 12, 1886 in Drohobytsch , † September 20, 1920 in Rahatschou ) was a Polish Art Nouveau painter.

He came from a Polish family of Armenian origin. His father, the painter Antoni Stefanowicz (1858–1929) gave him his first painting lessons. Kajetan Stefanowicz studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with Józef Pankiewicz and Józef Mehoffer , then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Otto Seitz and in Paris at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs with Fernand Humbert . After graduating, he worked in Lviv.

Stefanowicz mainly dealt with commercial graphics . He created posters, book illustrations, designed women's fashion and wall paintings in the headquarters of the Lemberger Kreditgesellschaft. His works were in the Art Nouveau style, only his last works showed an Art Deco influence .

During the First World War he joined on 20 February 1915, the Polish Lviv Ostlegion (Polish Legion Wschodni.) At and participated in the fighting as Lancers - Captain part. In Lviv he fought in the Polish-Ukrainian War in 1918 . In the Polish-Soviet War of 1920 he was killed at the age of 34 in the battle of Rahatschou in what is now Belarus . He was posthumously awarded the Silver Cross of the Virtuti Militari Order. Kajetanowicz was buried in the cemetery of the defenders of Lviv .
