The Kal'vets Rocks ( Russian Скаиа Кальвеца Skala Kalweza , Norwegian Kal'vecknatten ) are a rock formation in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . On the west side of the Alexander von Humboldt Mountains in the Wohlthat massif , it rises 3 km west-southwest of the summit of Flånuten .
They were discovered and photographed during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher . Surveys and aerial photographs of the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) were used to map them. Scientists from a Soviet Antarctic expedition carried out from 1960 to 1961 carried out a new measurement and naming. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this designation into English in 1970. It is named after the Soviet pilot O. A. Kalwez.
