The Kalajoki ( Finnish for "fish river") is a river in the Finnish landscape of Northern Ostrobothnia .

The 130 km long river has its origin in Lake Reisjärvi in the Reisjärvi municipality of the same name . From there it first flows a short distance northeast to Haapajärvi . Then it turns to the northwest and passes the towns of Nivala , Ylivieska and Alavieska , before flowing into the Gulf of Bothnia at Kalajoki . The catchment area of the Kalajoki extends over 4247 km².
