Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe bogneri is a perennial , completely bare plant that reaches heights of up to 100 centimeters and is covered with white floury frost. Its numerous, upright, thick shoots have a diameter of up to 15 millimeters and are not very branched at their base. The fleshy leaves are sessile. The greenish-bluish, ovate-elongated leaf blade is 6 to 13 centimeters long and 4 to 7 centimeters wide. Its tip is blunt to rounded, the base narrowed and encompassing the stem. The red leaf margin is serrate to tiny.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence consists of evenly arranged grapes that reach a length of 20 to 30 centimeters. The pendulous flowers are on 2 to 2.5 millimeter long flower stalks . The urn-shaped, slightly square cup is 2.4 to 2.7 millimeters long. The triangular calyx lobes are pointed. The corolla tube , which is pale green to the base , is pale to bright red-orange above and square in the upper part. It is about 3.5 millimeters long. Their blunt, upright corolla lobes are pale red and have a length of about 10 to 12 millimeters. The stamens do not protrude from the flower. The anthers are about 2 millimeters long. The short nectar flakes are elongated. The carpel has a length of about 3.8 millimeters. The stylus is about 3 millimeters long.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe bogneri is common in Madagascar in crevices with black humus on cliffs.
