Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi is a species of the genus Kalanchoe in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae). The species is named after the Russian Boris Fedtschenko (1872–1947).

description

The perennial, completely bare, dense shrubs with initially prostrate, creeping branches that are later upright, reach heights of growth of up to 50 centimeters. The roots are stiff and eight to eight inches long. The densely packed, oval to elongated, flat, fleshy, bluish leaves sit on 1 to 6 millimeter long stems. They become 1.5 to 5 inches long and 1 to 2.5 inches wide. The leaves are notched brownish in the lower part. Brood buds sometimes form in the notches . The inflorescence becomes 15 to 20 centimeters high. The drooping, brownish-pink flowers are tubular and up to 2 centimeters long.

Systematics, number of chromosomes and distribution

Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi is distributed in central and southeast Madagascar on primary rock at altitudes of 100 to 1000 meters. It is also found wild in some tropical countries, such as India .

It was first described in 1915 by Raymond-Hamet and Joseph Marie Henry Alfred Perrier de la Bâthie . Synonyms of the species are Bryophyllum fedtschenkoi (Raym.-Hamet & H.Perrier) Lauz.-March. , Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi var. Isalensis Boiteau & Mannoni and Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi var. Typica Mannoni & Boiteau .

The cultivar Kalanchoe fedtschenkoi cv. Variegata , with whitish variegated leaves, is often found in culture.
