description

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri is a perennial , sometimes biennial plant that forms rosettes at its base . Their shoots are usually very short and bare. The very thick, fleshy leaves are petiolate. The leaf stalk , which surrounds the broad stem, is 3.5 to 6.5 centimeters long. Their ovate-lanceolate, bald, green, numerous irregularly brownish green spotted leaf blades are 13 to 50 centimeters long and 4.5 to 10 centimeters wide. It is folded lengthways like a gutter. It is frosted white on the top. Their tip is long and pointed and has brood buds. The base is wedge-shaped, the leaf margin roughly notched.

Generative characteristics

The inflorescence consists of loose, more or less multi-flowered bouquets and reaches a length of 20 to 30 centimeters. The peduncle is 30 to 50 centimeters long. The pendulous or slightly spreading flowers are on approximately 10 millimeter long flower stalks . The bald calyx is green and has red or purple lines. The cylindrical goblet tube is 13 to 16 millimeters long. The triangular, pointed calyx lobes have a length of 5 to 6 millimeters and are 4.2 to 5.3 millimeters wide. The fine glandular hairy corolla is yellow-green and has red or purple lines. The cylindrical corolla tube is about 30 millimeters long. Their round, pointed corolla lobes are 9 to 11 millimeters long and 5.6 to 7.5 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached to the base of the corolla tube. The upper stamens protrude slightly from the flower. The kidney-shaped anthers are 2.5 to 3 millimeters long. The square, sanded-out nectar flakes are 1.2 to 2 millimeters long. The carpel has a length of 9 to 11 millimeters. The stylus is 16 to 24 millimeters long.

The obovate seeds reach a length of about 0.8 millimeters.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri is widespread in the north-west of Madagascar on rocky places.

The first description by Raymond-Hamet and Henri Perrier de La Bâthie was published in 1912.
