description

Vegetative characteristics

Kalanchoe globulifera is a small, perennial plant that branches out irregularly from the base and forms runners. Their short, slender, glandular-haired shoots are prostrate to prostrate-upright. At the top, three to four pairs of leaves form a rosette . The almost sessile leaves are bare. The ovate to obovate-spatulate leaf blade is 14 to 28 millimeters long and 13 to 18 millimeters wide. Its tip is rounded, the base wedge-shaped and narrowed into a very short stem. The leaf margin is slightly serrated in the upper part.

Generative characteristics

The little-flowered inflorescence is head - shaped and even and reaches a length of 10 to 15 centimeters. The rather long glandular-haired peduncle is 8 to 10 centimeters long. The upright flowers are on bare stalks about 3 millimeters long . Their almost not fused, linear, rounded calyx tips are about 4 millimeters long. The yellow petals are glabrous. The cylindrical corolla tube is about 8 millimeters long. Their egg-shaped, blunt corolla lobes are about 3 millimeters long and 2 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached above the center of the corolla tube and do not protrude from the flower. The spherical anthers are about 0.4 millimeters long. The linear nectar scales , forked at the tip, are about 3.5 millimeters long. The carpel has a length of 4 to 5 millimeters. The stylus is about 1 millimeter long.

The seeds reach a length of about 1 millimeter.

Systematics and distribution

Kalanchoe globulifera is distributed in the north of Madagascar on shady rocks or epiphytically at altitudes of 2400 meters.

The first description by Henri Perrier de La Bâthie was published in 1928.
