The Kalatungan (also known as Catatungan ) is the second highest volcano and the sixth highest mountain in the Philippines with 2824 m . The volcano is located in the center of Mindanao Island , near the town of Pangantucan , east of Lake Lanao in Bukidnon Province . The mainly basaltic stratovolcano forms a mountain range that runs in an east-west direction and has been a nature reserve since 2000 as the Mount Kalatungan Range Natural Park .
The Kalatungan has a base diameter of 44 km and was classified as "potentially active" in 2004 by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology ; it is likely that the Catalungan had its last eruption in the Holocene . A specific time of its last eruption is not known.
The source of the Cagayan River rises on the northern flank of the Kalatungan at an altitude of about 2,500 meters.
