The Kalksteiner Bach , called Roßtalbach in the upper reaches , is a brook in the municipality of Innervillgraten ( Lienz district ). The Kalksteiner Bach rises below the Kreuzspitze and flows into the Villgratenbach at Matten .
geography
geology
The limestone stream lies in a zone of crystalline slate. In the lower reaches above the valley widening in the mouth area there is a short valley narrowing. In the last section below the limestone, the left slope of the valley flattens out, while the right sides of the valley are continuously characterized by rock or steep slopes.
course
The headwaters of the Kalksteiner Bach are located on the southwest slopes of the Kreuzspitze in the Villgraten mountains . The brook flows in an arc from northeast to southeast through the Roßtal and takes on a short source brook on the right side, which rises at the Kalksteiner Jöchl. In the Roßbachtal the brook passes the Lipperalm and the Schalleralm, in the areas of which several unnamed tributaries flow to the left and right. The Alfenbach flows into the town of Kalkstein on the left. From the source to the confluence of the Alfenbach after about 4.2 kilometers, the Kalksteiner Bach is known as Roßtalbach. From Kalkstein, the Kalksteiner Bach flows in a north-easterly direction past Bad Kalkstein and flows into the Villgratenbach at Matten.
environment
While the valley areas on the left bank are mainly used for agriculture, the right bank in the lower reaches is characterized by coniferous forests. In the upper reaches (Roßtal), alpine pastures and meadows shape the landscape. Measurements on the biological water quality are not available for the Kalksteiner Bach, however, due to the small amount of discharges in the lower reaches, a slight negative impact on the water quality is assumed. Buildings on the bank are mainly found in the lower reaches, with the build-ups on the left serving to protect existing settlements and to secure the road along the river.
