The cold hornbeam is 433  m above sea level. NN high mountain in the border area of ​​the districts of Itzenhain and Gilserberg , both districts of Gilserberg , in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

The mountain belongs to the Gilserberger heights (natural area 346.0), which are part of the Upper Hessian threshold (natural area 346) in the West Hessian highlands (natural area 34). The 428  m above sea level. NN high west summit lies on the Rhine-Weser watershed . The Gilsa rises on the north flank of the mountain, southwest of Gilserberg . A marked and signposted circular hiking trail leads from Gilserberg around the mountain.

There was a court that was mentioned several times in 1360/1367 as a court (at) the kaldin Henbuchin and in 1368 as a court at the Kalden Haynbuche . Nothing is known of any court activity on the Kalten Hainbuche after 1368.
