The Kaltenberger Mühle , also called Heege-Mertes-Mühle , is a double water mill near Mömbris in the Aschaffenburg district in Bavaria .

The Kaltenberger Mühle is located in the middle of Kahlgrund between Königshofen and Schimborn . It consists of two mills, which are located on the left and right of the Mühlbach an der Kahl . The Obermühle is a cutting mill and operates a sawmill . It is located in the district of Schimborn not far from the village of Kaltenberg . The Untermühle is a former flour mill in the Königshofen area.

history

The Kaltenberg mill was first mentioned in writing in 1609. At that time it belonged to an estate from which today's Kaltenberg emerged. In 1686 it was named in a document as “Mühl bei Königshofen”. At the beginning of the 19th century the flour mill was expanded to include an oil mill opposite it . In 1832 the owner at the time, Anna Maria Rosenberger, divided the double mill and the property between her children. The mills were sold several times in the following years. In 1861 the grain mill and the area to the right of the Mühlbach from Schimborn to Königshofen were incorporated.

In 1870 Martin Heeg acquired the oil mill, which he also provided with a saw powered by water power . At that time there were three undershot water wheels turning side by side. In the following years the oil mill in the half-timbered house was demolished and the sawmill was expanded. In 1895 the Heeg family bought the grain mill again. But already in 1898 the property was divided among the Heeg children. In 1918 machines from the Alzenau Christmühle were acquired when they were shut down. The Kaltenberg grain mill was operated until the 1980s. The interior was preserved and the mill is still functional. In 1981 a flood severely damaged the old mill wheel of the sawmill. In 1990 the mill was renovated and in 2014 the mill wheel was renewed. The flour mill is now a mill museum.
