The Kalte Wangen is a mountain with 670.9 m above sea level on a foothill of the Randen , or the Kleiner Randen in the district of Waldshut in Klettgau .

Location and description

The cold cheek lies between Stetten and Grießen . On its flank is the road 161a, on which the Kalter Wangen hill climb took place from 1967 to 1988 . While the hill climb was considered safe, serious accidents occur again and again in "normal traffic". The name refers to the harsh weather conditions of the “cheek”, which is exposed to the storms arriving from the west, especially in winter. When the weather is clear, you can see the Alps from the mountain and the surrounding area . The Wannenberg transmitter is on the neighboring Wannenberg .

geology

On the road from Grießen to the summit point, fossil limestone of the Malm is exposed. In a few places they are traversed by fossilized coral reefs that have left fossils such as corals, sea urchins, etc. a. exhibit. A strata of the barley sand channel runs through the summit of the Kalten Wangen , which is developed at the Riedern am Sand sand pit . The summit itself is glacial and covered with Nagelfluh .
