Crucifixion group

The Kalvarienberg in Dorweiler is a crucifixion group in a half-timbered conversion in Dorweiler near Nörvenich , Düren district .

The crucifixion group was built in 1763. The group of figures made from Nideggen red sandstone has a “protective” framework . This protection has not been able to withstand the aggressive air of the past decades.

In 1979 the soft stone was so attacked that even when you touch it, large parts of the material peeled off and disintegrated into tiny sand particles. The chiseled inscription was already so mutilated in 1975 that at that time you could only read the following words:

Left center right
MATER in S.
DOLOROSA CrVCI DoMInI JOHN
OPN saLVs OPN
Maria further illegible 1763
full of pain John

further illegible of Jesus
want to divorce

The chronogram in the middle contains the year 1763. The chapel patroness Margaretha is carved with the dragon on the shaft of the cross .

The body and figures were in relatively good condition in the early 1980s. However, the earlier colored version is almost completely lost. In 1980 the municipality of Nörvenich initiated a comprehensive renovation of the monument. The Waldbröler restorer Christa König has overhauled the group of figures in three years of work and in particular secured and hardened the loose stone material. The restoration work was completed on May 15, 1981.

The community of Nörvenich, the state curator and a citizen of Dorweiler (5,000 DM) raised the costs of 36,704.15 DM .

The crucifixion group was entered on March 7, 1985 in the list of monuments of the Nörvenich community under No. 7.
