With Cambrian Mountains ( lat. : Cambria for Wales) are a series of mountain ranges in Wales called. They encompass the Brecon Beacons mountains in south Wales and extend to Carmarthenshire , Ceredigion and Snowdonia in the north of the country. In the Welsh language the area is called Elenydd .

Originally, the name Cambrian Mountains was generally used for the entire highlands of Wales. Only since the 1950s was only the geographically homogeneous area of ​​central Wales from the highest point Pumlumon ( 752  m ) to Mynydd Mallaen called the Cambrian Mountains . In the area lie the sources of the Severn and Wye rivers .
