With Cambrian Mountains ( lat. : Cambria for Wales) are a series of mountain ranges in Wales called. They encompass the Brecon Beacons mountains in south Wales and extend to Carmarthenshire , Ceredigion and Snowdonia in the north of the country. In the Welsh language the area is called Elenydd .
Originally, the name Cambrian Mountains was generally used for the entire highlands of Wales. Only since the 1950s was only the geographically homogeneous area of central Wales from the highest point Pumlumon ( 752 m ) to Mynydd Mallaen called the Cambrian Mountains . In the area lie the sources of the Severn and Wye rivers .
Here, geologically speaking, the Cambrian (named after Cambria ) comes to light.
