Kameha Grand Bonn

The Kameha Grand Bonn is a hotel in the Ramersdorf district of Bonn on the right bank of the Rhine , which opened on November 15, 2009. The hotel on the Rhine is located on the site of a former cement factory that has been extensively redesigned since 2003 as part of the Bonner Bogen urban development project . The name Kameha comes from the Hawaiian language and means "the unique one".

building

Like the other buildings on the Bonner Bogen, the Kameha Grand Bonn was also built according to the plans of the Bonn architectural office of Karl-Heinz Schommer , who gave the building its characteristic elliptical shape. The client of the hotel was the BonnVisio Group , under whose direction the Bonner Bogen was redesigned. Construction began on the hotel, which was up to five floors high, in mid-2007, and the building was ready for topping in September 2008 .

The total investment volume amounted to around 100 million euros.

The building has a total internal area of 18,650 m² and a total external area of 1,635 m². More than a third of the 31,100 m² gross floor area is underground (11,265 m²). By the time it opened in November 2009, 4,000 tons of steel, 500 kilometers of electrical cables and 27,500 m³ of concrete had been used.

The Kameha Grand Bonn covers 70 percent of its cooling and heating requirements through a geothermal power plant in the hotel's basement, which is connected to one of the largest geothermal systems in Europe. Compared to a conventional energy supply, around 1,700 MWh of primary energy and 400 tons of CO _{2 can be} saved annually.

Since September 2013, a log cabin used for gastronomy has been operated in the imitation of alpine ski huts on the hotel terrace on the Rhine side .

Christian von Ahlefeldt is responsible for managing the house as managing director.

Interior decoration

The hotel has a total of 218 rooms, 36 suites, a bar (Stage Bar & Lounge), Brasserie Next Level restaurant, Yunico restaurant (Japanese Fine Dining), Rheinalm, several lounges, a large outdoor terrace and a spa area with an outdoor pool. The eight event and conference rooms offer space for up to 2500 people. The interior design, based on neo-baroque forms, comes from the Dutch designer Marcel Wanders .

Awards

In 2010 the Kameha Grand Bonn received the MIPIM Award in the Hotels and tourism resorts category and the International Property Award. The building itself received the German Steel Construction Prize in 2010 . In the 2011 edition of the ARAL Schlummeratlas hotel guide, the hotel was named “Hotel of the Year”. In November 2011, the Kameha Grand was voted Hotel of the Year by readers of Diners Club magazine worldwide. In 2012 the hotel was named Germany's best trendy hotel by TripAdvisor . The hotel has no stars. A categorization according to DEHOGA is not available at the moment.

criticism

Doubts about the hotel's economy arose early on. It is said that costs of almost 400,000 euros per room were incurred. This is difficult to achieve, and in the first few years the hotel did not make it either, and millions were lost. In addition, there is a high fluctuation among employees and managers.

In 2017, the hotel came under fire with the statement of the "5-star feeling" to operate star fake and received the request from the competition headquarters to stop this star advertising. The hotel rejected the review because they never called themselves a 5 star hotel.
