Schommer is primarily dedicated to the integration of new buildings into historical old buildings. His aim is to create an attractive and independent architecture by filling vacant lots.

While in the first few years of his activity the focus was on projects in Bonn, in the last few years there have been an increasing number of projects in Berlin . These include the forum of the German Association of Officials in Friedrichstrasse in 2001 and the headquarters of the German Savings Banks and Giro Association in Behrenstrasse in 2002 .

The Bonn projects that have been realized by Schommer include the Kaiserpassage with the redesign of Martinsplatz, the extension of the Sparkassen- und Giroverband , the Queen Juliana School for mentally handicapped students, a renovation for the International Paralympic Committee ( Adenauerallee 212 / 214 ) and the "Rheinwerk" in the former cement factory in Bonn-Oberkassel . In September 2006 he was entrusted with the design of the extension of what was then the Bonn-Bad Godesberg comprehensive school . Schommer is still responsible for the construction of the Kameha Hotel , which was built in the Bonner Bogen on the site of the former cement factory. A development of the "Park Trillhase" in Niederdollendorf is planned (as of November 2013) on a site on which the artist Adalbert Trillhaase had a villa with a park built as a retirement home.
