Camel Louafi

Kamel Louafi (* 1952 ) is a German-Algerian landscape architect who has become known nationally and internationally through the first prize in the international landscape architecture competition and the realization of the gardens at the EXPO 2000 world exhibition in Hanover.

He designed and designed the Königsplatz in Kassel (2003), “Le Jardin de Bocage” in Bremen (2004) and the Opernplatz in Hanover (2007). But he also designed the Garden of the Four Rivers and the Reception Hall in the Gardens of the World in Marzahn (2005 and 2009), a reorganization of the Valkeniersweide Park in Rotterdam (2003) and gardens in Abu Dhabi , Qatar and Saudi Arabia .

Louafi landscape architects a. a. on the outdoor facilities for the North Campus of the Humboldt University in Berlin , for the International Garden Show in Hamburg, projects in Algeria and on the implementation of the Place de la Résistance in Esch-sur-Alzette / Luxembourg, which was also won in the competition .

Life

After studying topography (1973), Kamel Louafi worked in Algeria from 1974 to 1978 in a German-Algerian forest inventory and country development project as a cartographer for the forest inventory of Beni-Imloul . He also worked at the MS Louafi architecture firm in Batna , Algeria. In 1980 he began studying landscape architecture at the Technical University of Berlin and in 1980 he learned the German language in Berlin.

From 1986 to 1996 he worked as a freelancer on various projects in Luxembourg and Berlin. He is a member of the Berlin Chamber of Architects and founded the landscape architecture firm Kamel Louafi in 1996.

From 2000 to 2009 he was the curator of the architecture gallery AEDES Berlin. He was also a member of the jury in various national and international competitions, taught at the German Foundation for International Development in Bonn, and also at the universities of Berlin, Barcelona, ​​Batna, Paris, Oslo and Lüneburg .

He has published various works on the subject of landscape architecture and landscape art.

philosophy

Louafi landscape architects place the cultural significance of open spaces (parks, gardens, squares, etc.) in the foreground of their work philosophy. The interplay of public and private open spaces should have a diverse and multipurpose appearance, in which growth and the seasons can be read.
