The Klagenfurt-Wörthersee Chamber Choir from Klagenfurt in Carinthia consists of 50 singers and is one of the most innovative Carinthian choirs.

Choral history

The Klagenfurt Chamber Choir was founded in 1985 under the name Singkreis Klagenfurt-Wörthersee. Numerous CD recordings were made under the direction of Herwig Wiener and the choir was successful in competitions. From 1993 to 2001 it was headed by Erwin Berger and Reinhard Kühr. The longstanding chairman is Günter Magerle. Brigitte Wurzer, who has been with the Klagenfurt-Wörthersee Singing Circle for 9 years, is chairwoman.

management

In 2001 Christian Liebhauser-Karl took over the choir direction. The choir was renamed the Klagenfurt-Wörthersee Chamber Choir and reorganized artistically. The aim of the choir work is to achieve the highest possible musical quality, regardless of whether a song or work comes from the field of classical, popular music or folk song. When interpreting the Carinthian song , it is important for Christian Liebhauser-Karl to “go back to the roots”.

Every second year the chamber choir rehearses a large choral orchestral work, working with the Dommusik Klagenfurt Orchestra, mainly with members of the Carinthian Symphony Orchestra. There are also summer concerts or “Contemplative Christmas” in the Maria Saal Cathedral. Small groups of the Klagenfurt-Wörthersee Chamber Choir, the Mixed Double Sextet and the Mixed Quartet sing all over the country. Numerous concert tours have taken the chamber choir to many cities in Europe, but also to the Far East, South Africa and most recently to Canada.

Project " Hallelujah " - "Alliluja" - Passion and Glory in East and West

The intention of the annual project 2010 with the scientific support of Günther Antesberger is a comparison of passion literature of the Eastern and Western Churches, whereby many notes were created and choral movements were written.

On the one hand there are the works of the Russian masters and orthodox folk tunes, a church literature whose guiding principle was the glorification of God with one's own mouth, i.e. decidedly without instruments. These are juxtaposed with the works of JS Bach , Anton Bruckner (Ave Maria, Locus iste), G. Homilius , W. Gluck and Franz Schubert as well as Carinthian passion songs and passion literature. A first audio sample was given in spring in the Catholic Church in Bodensdorf . A CD with an in-depth booklet designed by the composer Günther Antesberger was presented on November 21 in the Maria Saal Cathedral . Choir director Liebhauser-Karl arranged different choir constellations for the recordings depending on the works, in order to enable interesting listening experiences, in particular to enable the comparison of homophonic and polyphonic music. For this purpose, a “choral quartet constellation” is used, which leads to the creation of an impressive sound surface.

Project "Mein Land" - New Carinthian Song

Choir director Christian Liebhauser-Karl

The Klagenfurt-Wörthersee Chamber Choir has set itself the task of giving the Kärntnerlied new impulses. Under the project title “Mein Land”, songwriters and lyricists were asked to submit new compositions for Carinthian songs. The result is an extensive work, with compositions ranging from the "classical" Carinthian song to the polyphonic "Carinthian song". Probably also because of the intersection of the German, Slovenian and Italian cultures, the melodies convey a very special atmosphere.

The result of the project was the double CD “Mein Land” as well as a music book, which was presented to the public at the world premieres in October 2007 in the Wappensaal Klagenfurt. The Carinthian composers involved are: Günther Antesberger, Erwin Berger, Dieter Fleiß, Nikolaus Fheodoroff, Josef Inzko, Walter Kraxner, Karl Maier, Thomas Modrej, Veit Obersteiner Veit, EdiOraze Edi, Hedi Preissegger , Gerhard Prinz, Friedrich Schwarz jun., Roland Streiner, Bruno Strobl. Within a short time, some of the new Carinthian songs have already gained a foothold in the numerous choirs in the country.

Project " Our Country "

Together with other choirs, especially the Mesani pevski Zbor Jakob Petelin Gallus with its chairman Miha Kampuš was 2 May 2012 at Klagenfurt station a flash mob organized. The campaign marked the start of the "Our Country" initiative, in which 300 Carinthian singers from the German and Slovenian language cultures gathered and sang together. The aim of the non-partisan initiative is to overcome the rifts that emerged between the Carinthian folk cultures in the 20th century wherever possible. The chamber choir, together with the Jakob Petelin Gallus Choir and the military music, framed the national celebration for the referendum on October 10, where a Carinthian song was premiered and the reconciliation hymn "Carinthia-Koroska" was played.
