Kang Hee-chan (born May 10, 1970 ) is a South Korean table tennis player who won the bronze medal in doubles at the 1992 Olympic Games.
Career
Kang Hee-chan achieved his first international success in 1987 at the Asian Youth Championships, where he reached the final in mixed with Lee Chong Mu. In 1990 he won the team competition at the Asian Games . He won other titles at the Asian Championships for adults: in 1992 he lost the final against Xie Chaojie , in doubles with Lee Chul-seung he was Asian champion. In 1996 he finished second in doubles with Kim Taek-soo , and won the title with the South Korean team.
In 1989 , 1991 and 1993 he was nominated for the world championship . In 1989 and 1993 he was fifth with the team, in 1993 he was eliminated in doubles in the quarter-finals. At the 1992 Olympic Games he won the bronze medal in doubles with Lee Chul-seung , as the semi-final match against the German Jörg Roßkopf / Steffen Fetzner was lost. At the next Olympics four years later he made it to the quarterfinals in doubles.
After 1996 he no longer appeared internationally. In the ITTF world rankings , Kang Hee-chan was ranked 64th in 1997.
He later worked as a national coach for South Korea.
