Kangerlussuaq [ kaˌŋɜˈɬːusːuɑq ] (according to the old spelling Kangerdlugssuaĸ ; Inuktun Kangertugguaq [ kaˌŋɜχˈɾuçːuɑ (q) ]) is a deserted Greenlandic settlement in the district of Qaanaaq in the Avannaata Kommunia .

location

Kangerlussuaq is located on the south coast of the fjord of the same name (Inglefield Bredning) opposite the small island of Qimmiuneqarfik . 17 km to the northeast is the nearest inhabited place Qeqertat .

history

Kangerlussuaq belongs to the Oqqorliit residential group , within which the Inughuit used to roam as nomads. In 1951 there were still thirteen residents living on the site. A year later there were only four and another year later only two. In 1960 the place no longer had any residents. Presumably it was given up shortly after 1953.
