Canton Lüdenscheid

The canton Lüdenscheid (historical spelling Canton Lüdenscheid ) was a canton in the Arrondissement Hagen of the Département Ruhr and existed from 1808 to 1813. The canton was a subordinate administrative unit in the Grand Duchy of Berg, which was under French administration and ruled by Joachim Murat , a brother-in-law of Napoleon .

The canton had 14,827 inhabitants and consisted of the titular town and town of Lüdenscheid and the town of Meinerzhagen , as well as the farmers Berg , Brenscheid , Brüninghausen , Danklinghausen , Drehscheid , Ebbe , Herscheid , Hulscheid , Lerringhausen , Menninghaus , Midder , Minkhausen , Mintenbeck , Rosmart , Severinghausen , Wehberg , Wester and Winkel of the court Lüdenscheid , the farmers Beurhaus , Genkel , Hardenberg , Hohenholt , Hölne , Kierspe , Lansberg , Lengelscheid , Loer , Oefte , Rade , Rönsal , Schmidthausen , Valbert and Wilkenberg of the court Meinerzhagen and the farmers Bergfeld , Bommert , Ehringhausen , Eikhofen , Glörfeld , Halver , Kampscheid , Lansberg and Oeckinghausen of the parish of Halver.

After the canton was dissolved, the canton area became part of the newly formed Prussian district of Altena .
