Arrondissement Hamm

The Arrondissement Hamm was created in 1808 as part of the administrative reform in the Grand Duchy of Berg at the administrative district level and was part of the Ruhr department . In 1809, the Hamm arrondissement consisted of the cantons of Ahlen , Beckum , Lippstadt , Hamm , Oelde , Soest and Rheda . The cantons of Sassenberg and Warendorf were added later. The arrondissement was headed by a sub-prefect. The sub-prefecture was located in the former chamber college building on the market square . The sub-prefect of the Hamm arrondissement was David Wiethaus from 1809 , the former mayor of justice and KDK council and later district administrator in the Hamm district . Together with the arrondissements of Dortmund and Hagen, the arrondissement of Hamm formed the Ruhr department .
