Kanturk
Kanturk ( Irish Ceann Toirc ; German "head of the boar ") is a country town in County Cork in the southwest of the Republic of Ireland .
The place
Kanturk is a smaller market town at the confluence of the Rivers Allow and Dallow in the northwest inland of County Cork. The city developed from an existing settlement in the 17th century. After having remained constant for a long time, the population rose from 1651 to 1915 between 2002 and the 2006 census . At the 2016 Census, the population was already 2350 people. The twin town of Kanturk is Rostrenen in Brittany .
A notable historical building near the city is Kanturk Castle , a so-called fortress house , built around 1601.

Kanturk is just north of the N72 from Mallow to Killarney ; it is 15 km from Mallow and 40 km from Killarney. Via regional roads Kanturk u. a. connected with Abbeyfeale on the N21 and with Charleville on the N20 from Limerick City to Cork City, the distance to both major cities is approximately 50 km.
