Kaori Yuki ( Japanese 由 貴 香 織 里 , Yuki Kaori , born December 18 in Tokyo , Japan ) is a Japanese manga artist .

Life

As with many Japanese mangaka, her name is a stage name. Her real name and year of birth are not known to the public. In other respects, too, she is considered to be more of a public and travel reluctant, which she herself points out in marginal notes in her manga .

In a talent competition of the Hakusensha publishing house, Kaori Yuki reached the semifinals and was able to gain first artistic experience. As a result, she wrote several short stories for the publisher's manga magazine Hana to Yume from 1987 to 1993. For her biggest success and ultimate breakthrough Angel Sanctuary , which began in 1994 , she even interrupted her first series Count Cain (later renamed God Child ) for several years. Angel Sanctuary is their so far only Manga, of which there is an adaptation of a three-part OVA - Anime is. She was also responsible for the character design of the computer game Meine Liebe , for which there is also an anime.

She remained loyal to the shōjo magazine Hana to Yume by Hakusensha, which is aimed primarily at Japanese high school students and thus also corresponds to the main target group of Kaori Yuki's manga, until the new manga monthly Aria was founded at the competitor publisher Kōdansha in 2010. Her work Iiki no ki was published there , later also Alice in Murderland , until the magazine was discontinued in 2018.

Most of her works were published in German by Carlsen Verlag .

In small marginal notes next to the actual panels , she goes into letters to the editor and talks about her second great passion, music. Some characters in their manga have names of artists (bands) and movie characters. The basic mood of her works is often quite gloomy and takes on many elements of Gothic culture , including clothing made of black leather and the recurring angels and demons. In recent years, the influence of the Japanese or Tokyo Gothic Lolita subculture on their drawing style, for example in Fairy Cube or Perfume Master , has become increasingly apparent.
