Cape Hammersly is an ice-covered cape on the Budd coast of Wilkesland, East Antarctica . It is halfway between the mouths of the Williamson and Totten Glaciers in the Southern Ocean .
The first mapping in 1955 was made by the American cartographer Gardner Dean Blodgett (* 1925) using aerial photographs of Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cape after George W. Hammersly (1820 – unknown), midshipman on board the sloop USS Vincennes , flagship of the United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842) under the direction of the American polar explorer Charles Wilkes .
