The Roman Catholic Maria Schnee chapel is located in the Halden district in the market town of Nenzing in the Bludenz district in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to the Mother of God and belongs to the Nenzing parish church and thus to the Walgau-Walsertal deanery in the Feldkirch diocese . The building from 1874 is a listed building . The chapel (approx. 626  m above sea level ) is approx . 5 km as the crow flies from the center of Nenzing (approx . 2 km from Frastanz ) and is located on the border with the municipality of Frastanz on Haldener Straße (L67) on the way to Gampelün or according to Gurtis .

The patronage is celebrated at the beginning of August.

history

The chapel was built in 1874 to replace a previous building. The previous building from the 17th century is said to have been built as a plague chapel and it was planned to close it in 1785 on the occasion of the Josephine church reform . In any case, this previous building was visited again in 1790 and in 1842 it was demolished and rebuilt, except for the walls, with the working help of the residents of Quart - Halden, Tobel, Büchel, Rungeletsch and Roßniß - and those of Winkel, Gampelün, Gadon, Kosen and Anderhalben .

Hans Purin was involved in a renovation in 2005/2006 .

Church building

It is a building with an approximately rectangular basic shape and south-west / north-east orientation. The gable roof and the bell roof skylights with gable peak are with Eternit - shingles covered. The bell ridge and the attached sacristy are facing southeast to the street.

The chapel building is about 14 meters long, 8 meters wide and 8 meters high (without bell ridge turrets). There is room for around 100 people. The main entrance on the northeast side leads through a sandstone-framed round arched door made of wood in a relatively simple design. Above the door is a semicircular skylight.

Next to the main entrance door is a multi-century summer linden tree ( natural monument ).

Furnishing

The late Gothic sculptures in the chapel, Mary with Child , Sulpitius and the Evangelist Johannes , were transferred here from the old parish church of Frastanz. These sculptures are said to date from around 1480.
