Old hay barn and some houses from Gampelün below

Gampelün is a district and an independent hamlet of the market town of Frastanz in Vorarlberg ( Austria ) with around 240 inhabitants and at the same time this is the name of an enclave in the municipality of Nenzing . The two districts of Frastanz Gampelün (Frastanz II) and Bardella (Frastanz III) are completely enclosed by the Nenzing area.

Gampelün includes the districts of Winkel, Oberes Gampelün, Rofel, Kosa, Bardella, Anderhalden and Galätscha.

Surname

The name Gampelün can only be found in Vorarlberg in this place. In the documents of Frastanz, the name in the spelling Gampelü was first mentioned in 1365.

history

Gampelün was first settled by Romansh , to which many field names can be traced back (e.g. Fäscha, Rofel, Lasch, Mottabella, Gaschirr). In the late Middle Ages, there were also Walsers who settled here.

Why Gampelün and Bardelle became an enclave in the middle of the Nenzing municipality has not yet been clarified. According to Elmar Schallert, this could have been due to tax or property law reasons. Under certain circumstances, the residents of Gampelün and Bardella also voluntarily made contributions to an earlier church in Frastanz.

For centuries, Nenzing and Frastanz were part of a single community. It was not until the 14th century that they separated. Mittelberg stayed with Nenzing, Gampelün (Frastanz II) and Bardella (Frastanz III) belonged to Frastanz from then on and have since been connected to one another by a corridor.

Topography, geography, location, traffic

The enclaves Gampelün and Bardelle belong to the Feldkirch district , while the rest of Nenzing (Mittelberg) belongs to the Bludenz district. Due to the greater geographical proximity to Frastanz, the Mittelberg (Nenzing) surrounding the two enclaves is cared for by Frastanz and the post is also delivered via Frastanz, as is the case in Gampelün and Bardella. Gampelün is located on a south-facing slope terrace between approx. 500  m above sea level as seen from Frastanz . A. to about 750  m above sea level. A. The enclave is approximately 1,500 meters long and an average width of 1,000 meters. The area is 150 ha 93 ares . For the most part, this enclave consists of agricultural land ( meadow ) and forest areas . Only a small part has been built, with the enclave developing into a residential area in recent decades. According to the census of October 10, 1967, there were 36 houses in Gampelün with 43 households with 170 people. Around 50 years later there are 62 houses with around 230 people.

From the center of Frastanz it is about 2500 meters as the crow flies to Gampelün and to Frastafeders or Bazora as well. After Nenzing it is about 4000 meters as the crow flies.

On the eastern edge of the enclave, the Galina flows over a length of about 1000 meters and south / southeast over a length of about 300 meters. The southern edge of the enclave is also formed by the Rofelbach. The Roßniserbach rises in Gampelün and flows from here to the Halden district of the market town of Nenzing.

religion

In Gampelün there is the Gampelüner Chapel ( local chapel of the Mariä apparition in Lourdes ), which was built in 1901 in place of an earlier wayside shrine and is directly at the main intersection of Gampelün, Gampelünerstraße (L67 from Frastanz), Gurtiserstraße (L68) and Gadonstraße (L67 to Nenzing).

Nature and agriculture

In Gampelün there are lean hay meadows and sloping moors that are worth protecting. The "Kosa soul" only exists from time to time when it fills with surface water. The Roßniserbach is largely natural and is known colloquially as the Roßniserbächle .

The Gampelün agricultural community cultivates around 61.50 hectares in Gampelün, i.e. around 41% of the total area of Gampelün.
