The chapel ( 739  m above sea level ) is about 2 km as the crow flies from the city center of Dornbirn.

history

The chapel was donated by the Dornbirn citizen and well-known wine merchant Matthäus Thurnher (* August 28, 1792; † April 11, 1878; see: Johannes Thurnher ) and built around 1860 to 1862. The chapel is consecrated to St. Ottilie , who is venerated as the patron saint of Alsace and eyesight . The water from Fallenberg used to be considered medicinal for eye diseases.

The chapel was renovated in 1929, 1961, 1983–1984. In February 1990 the old bell ridge was torn down by hurricane Vivian and had to be replaced.

Church building

The chapel stands directly on part of the old Bödelestrasse and was consecrated in 1862. It is a building with an approximately rectangular basic shape and south-west / north-east orientation. To the northeast (altar), the outer walls are rounded. The ornate wooden door with a viewing window in the shape of a cross and the bell ridge on the gable roof with a square pointed helmet are located to the southwest. The gable roof is covered with Eternit roof shingles.

The prayer room has a barrel vault and a retracted choir wall. There are elongated arched windows in the facade.

Furnishing

The pews are made of lacquered fir wood and are kept simple. The Stations of the Cross are ornate small paintings with a wooden border. The chapel has an imposing high altar with the image of St. Ottilie. This picture was painted by Johann Kaspar Rick . In front of the high altar is a simple cripple wood altar, which was made by Dornbirn scouts for a wedding and has since served as a people's altar in the chapel. Next to the retracted choir arch are two statues of St. Nikolaus von Myra (left) and St. Konrad von Konstanz (right).

Next to the main altar are two other statues. On the left is St. Franz Xavier and on the right St. Depicted Ignatius of Loyola . According to tradition, the statues come from the parish church of St. Martin .
