The Roman Catholic Chapel of the Holy. Trinity and 14 helpers (including Chapel throats , 434  m above sea level. A. ) is in the district throats of the community Dornbirn in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg . It is consecrated to the Trinity and the Fourteen Holy Helpers and belongs to the parish church of St. Martin and thus to the dean's office in Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building from 1867 is a listed building .

The Russenbrunnen (also Franzosenbrunnen or Kehler Brunnen ) is located diagonally across from the chapel .

history

In front of today's chapel there was probably a so-called image ( wayside shrine ). A small chapel with about four benches was built in 1798/1799. Today's building followed in 1867. According to the inscription on the altar sheet, the chapel was donated by Dornbirn citizen and well-known wine merchant Matthäus Thurnher (* August 28, 1792; † April 11, 1878; see: Johannes Thurnher ) and built between 1867 and 1869.

Although the chapel had been in use since 1869, the first chapel festival was not celebrated until September 5, 1922. This was only possible after the chairman of the chapel committee (previously twice in vain) had asked the parish priest to be awarded the license to measure. The pastor had given the reason for the previous refusal that he feared an additional burden on pastoral care, which in St. Martin consisted of three priests.

Electric lighting was installed in 1931. Renovations took place in 1907, 1936 and 1962.

architecture

Exterior description

Ceiling fresco of the Assumption of Mary .
List of the fourteen emergency helpers and their memorial days.

It is a building with a rectangular basic shape and south-east / north-west orientation. To the northwest (altar), the outer walls are rounded (5/8 end). The simple wooden door and the shingled bell ridge on the gable roof with a rectangular gable- pointed helmet are located to the southeast. On the left (southwest) there is an attached sacristy with a hipped roof. There is a circular window in the facade above the entrance.

Inside description

The prayer room is equipped with two arched windows and has a slightly suggested barrel vault and a retracted choir wall. The chapel has 16 benches that can seat around 80 worshipers. This makes the chapel one of the largest of its kind in Dornbirn.

Furnishing

The interior of the chapel is simple and is dominated by the two side altars and the high altar. The altarpiece of the high altar was made by the Dornbirn painter and artist Johann Kaspar Rick (1808–1888). During the renovation in 1936, the altarpiece and the ceiling painting were repaired by the academic painter Julius Wehinger.

The altarpiece shows the fourteen helpers in need, in the middle is St. Christophorus . The other saints are arranged in two groups seated at the side. On the left side of the altar is a statue of St. Elisabeth and right of St. Aloisius attached. The left side altar (Marienaltar) shows Mary with the child . The right side altar is dedicated to St. Dedicated to Joseph. These pictures should also come from Johann Kaspar Rick, as well as the ceiling painting ( Assumption of Mary ) and another picture on which the Apostle Paul preaching in Athens is shown.

On the right long wall there is a so-called Herz-Jesu picture, which has the inscription: " Hoc M. Com. Vom Breda don.ad.major.Dei glor. Et SS. Cordis Jes. An. MDCCCLXVIII, signed C.Jele 1868 "carries.

The " Eye of God " and two angels on both sides of the high altar and the image of St. Cäcilia come from Julius Wehinger.

The first two war memorial plaques for the victims of the First World War who lived in the Kehlen plot were installed in 1936. Two memorial plaques for the victims of the Second World War followed in 1962 . An electric bell was installed in 1966.

In 1970 the sculptural Stations of the Cross by the sculptor Karl Summer from Fraxern were installed.
