The Roman Catholic chapel Ammenegg is in the district Ammenegg the town of Dornbirn in Dornbirn in Vorarlberg . She is St. Mary Magdalene and St. Wendelin and belongs to the parish church of Oberdorf and thus to the dean's office in Dornbirn in the diocese of Feldkirch . The building from 1866 is a listed building ( list entry ). The chapel ( 904  m above sea level ) is about 3.7 km as the crow flies from the center of Dornbirn.

history

The chapel was donated by the Dornbirn citizen and well-known wine merchant Matthäus Thurnher (* August 28, 1792; † April 11, 1878; see: Johannes Thurnher ) and built around 1866. The chapel is preserved by the residents of Ammenegg.

The chapel is located directly on the old mule track that used to lead from the Rhine Valley ( Haselstauden ) over the Losenpass ( Bödele ) into the Bregenz Forest ( Schwarzenberg ).

Church building

It is a building with a rectangular basic shape and south-west / north-east orientation. To the southeast (altar) the outer walls are sloping. The simple wooden door with a viewing window and the bell ridge on the gable roof with a hexagonal pointed helmet are located to the southwest. The gable roof is covered with Eternit roof shingles.

The prayer room has a barrel vault and a retracted choir wall. There are rectangular, elongated windows in the facade.

The bell was originally donated by Matthäus Thurnher and cast by Grassmayr. In 1944 this had to be removed and given away during the Second World War and was probably melted down. In 1960 a bell was removed from the chapel of St. Sebastian and St. Antonius from Hohenems bought and installed. There has been an electric bell since 1976.

Furnishing

The pews made of fir wood are kept simple. The Stations of the Cross are ornate small paintings with a wooden border. The chapel has an imposing high altar with the image of Mary with the child with the inscription: " St. Mary you helper of the Christians ". A massive wooden altar stands in front of the high altar. Next to the retracted choir arch are two pictures of Maria Magdalena and St. Wendelin , who are also the patrons of this chapel. The interior design was the responsibility of the painter Johann Kaspar Rick , who created the ceiling painting, the representation of Jesus in the temple, St. Maria Magdalena, St. Wendelin, who created the Stations of the Cross as well as the Eye of God and the acanthus tendrils and the altarpiece.
