history

This chapel was first mentioned in 1643. In 1648 the chapel is mentioned in the Vorarlberg war history book 1600 to 1648 by Franz Ransperg (father in the territorial abbey Wettingen-Mehrerau ). In 1831 this chapel was relocated in the direction of Pfänder and rebuilt on the occasion of the construction of the road along the shores of Lake Constance . In the official speech by pastor Ch. Anton Walser in 1834, the chapel is mentioned as the "poor sinners chapel". The chapel deteriorated more and more over the years. In 1986 the Federal Monuments Office determined that the "currently" ruinous chapel was likely to date from the Biedermeier period from 1800 to 1848. In 1989 the desolate chapel was moved again and rebuilt and rededicated by the municipality of Lochau and private initiatives.

The chapel was for centuries the last Buss station for the people at the underlying Gallows Hill ( the place of the city of Bregenz should be executed) and is therefore also known as: Chapel of the poor , gallows Chapel , Büßerkapelle , Magdalena Chapel of Magdalena of the penitent , called .

building

The chapel is a stone building (about 4 meters high, 2 meters wide and 3 meters long) free-standing on all sides with a steep gable roof that is covered with plain tiles. In terms of size and function, it is more of a chapel shrine, as there is only room for one person.

In the chapel there is a simple wooden cross and a carved statue depicting Mary Magdalene.
