Building history

The early Gothic chapel from the 13th century is dedicated to St. Consecrated to Meinrad . The church building was first mentioned in 1229 as a branch church of the Rüti monastery . It was first mentioned in a document in which Rudolf I von Rapperswil assigned the church to the Rüti monastery.

From around 1250 to 1267 the chapel was probably used as a monastery church for the Premonstratensian convent there. Even if the details have not yet been clarified, the Rüti monastery was established as a double monastery of the Premonstratensians for men and women, until no further sisters were admitted in 1283 on the instructions of the General Chapter. In 1257, the Pope issued a hereditary privilege that allowed the provost and convent to accept inheritances that fell to the brothers and sisters of the monastery. Until the decision in 1283, this is the first and only reference to a double monastery. Whether and how the aforementioned women's convent of Rüti is related to the Bollingen monastery founded by Rudolf von Rapperswil, which was subordinated to Rüti by 1259 at the latest - and incorporated into the Mariazell-Wurmsbach monastery in 1267 - or is even identical with it, has not yet been clarified.

In 1627 the church building was built in its current form, with a roof turret and a polygonal choir closure.
