The Kardinal-von-Galen-Gymnasium (KvG) is a high school sponsored by the diocese of Münster .

Location and history

The Kardinal-von-Galen-Gymnasium is located in the Hiltrup district in the south of Münster . It was founded in 1897 by the Hiltrup missionaries , closed in 1940 by the National Socialists and in 1946 in memory of the important, u. a. because of his approval of the Second World War started by Hitler and his persistent silence on the persecution of the Jews, but also reopened the controversial Bishop of Münster as the Cardinal von Galen School . Girls were accepted for the first time in 1968. In 1975 the diocese of Münster took over the school administration. In 2012, 1076 students attended the school.

The Kardinal-von-Galen-Gymnasium with over 80 teachers and over 1000 students is one of the largest high schools in the diocese of Münster, offering a wide range of subjects and courses. The school's language program is extensive. The foreign languages ​​English, French, Spanish, Italian and Latin are offered. There is regularly the opportunity to acquire language certificates ( DELF , DALF , FCE , CAE etc.).

The school is known for its many music ensembles. This also includes a big band , a wind orchestra and a young orchestra. Since 2003 there has been a special musical profile with the wind classes . The vocal music is intensively cultivated on CoG. There are several choirs. The KvG has an auditorium with a large stage. Performances take place here regularly.

The subject of art is very important at the KvG. The students of the basic and advanced courses regularly exhibit their work in the region.

The school cooperates as a career choice and training-friendly school with many external partners. It is a MINT-EC school and an excellent school in the Junior Engineer Academy network . A special focus of the school is individual support . Talent promotion and supportive promotion takes place across grades in several hours a week. External cooperation partners (sports clubs, Münster music school) and external experts are also involved here. In the area of ​​supportive support, learning coaching and special support for reading and spelling weaknesses are also offered. For more than 30 years, a two-week adventure- based Ameland trip and a ski project have been part of the school's trip program . The school has extensive sports facilities (e.g. triple sports hall ). In addition to soccer, basketball, volleyball, table tennis and tennis, rowing and golf are also among the sports on offer.

Another non-profit project run by the KvG is the "WE CAN HELP" project. As part of the project, students campaign for minorities in Münster.
