Cardinal King House

The Cardinal König Haus (KKH) in Vienna - Lainz is a retreat and education center of the Austrian Jesuit order , which is run in cooperation with the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna . It serves as a seminar and conference location.
history
The Kardinal König Haus was founded at the end of the 19th century and is located in the 13th district (Lainzer Straße / Kardinal-König-Platz). The extension and the renaming took place around the year 2000, while Cardinal Franz König was still alive .
The motto for the opening of the new house was "The name says it all", which alluded to the pioneering role of the long-time Archbishop of Vienna as a "dialogical bridge builder". Often admired as well as criticized, Cardinal Franz König cultivated the dialogue in different directions: with the Eastern Church and the Protestant churches , with those far away, the working class, the Social Democrats , the Freemasons , and did not ignore certain taboo subjects.
The educational center is structurally connected to the new parish church of the Lainz-Speising Council Memorial Church via a covered bridge. If the rooms of the education house are not sufficient for large events, the church can serve as a meeting place. The Vienna diocesan synod convened by Cardinal Franz König took place in the parish church, as well as regular ecumenical dialogue, the Leuenberg Agreement, large marriage seminars , meetings of the Pro Oriente Foundation and theological discussions with the Eastern Churches.
In addition to retreats and general adult education , the KKH also organizes medical and socio-political conferences , e. B. in the field of hospice and palliative care , courses on social management and order development, conferences and lectures on the world religions and other events.
The current motto of the KKH is a saying from the founder of the order, Ignatius von Loyola, from the book of exercises: “Not knowing a lot saturates the soul, but rather feeling and tasting things from within”.
