Karel Geraerts (born January 5, 1982 in Genk ) is a former Belgian football player who last played in the Belgian top division from 2011 in 2014 at Oud-Heverlee Löwen .

Player career

Karel Geraerts started his career as a football player in 1989 with the provincial club Cercle Maasmechelen . In 1998 he finally moved to KRC Genk before joining the top Belgian club FC Bruges two years later, where he also played his first professional football matches. Between 2000 and 2004, however, he only made nine league games in which he remained goalless. Nevertheless, he was able to win the cup and the championship with his team once. He also achieved three Supercup wins with the club from Bruges .

In January 2004, after he remained unused for the entire first half of the season, Geraerts moved to league rivals SC Lokeren , where he was allowed to play 16 times in the second half of the season. After only half a year he left Lokeren again and signed a long-term contract with Standard Liège . At Standard he was able to develop into a leading player and became a national player. But Standard was never enough for a title, even if the runner-up and the cup final were reached once.

From summer 2007 to summer 2011 Karel Geraerts played again for his previous club and the current cup winners Club Brugge at the time of the change. From 2011 to 2014 his next stop was Oud-Heverlee Löwen .
